This is a happy moment to celebrate for the birth of anime archiving!!!!! Let's keep the arts and techniques for the future. I'm truly happy as a translator supporting E-SAKUGA from the start:)

Hope all goes well with the historical project!!!

Quick translation (MTPE):

Kyoto Seika University, in collaboration with Seika Town (Soraku District, Kyoto Prefecture) and Onebilling Inc., is embarking on a groundbreaking pilot project. The aim is to digitally archive animation keyframes and other related materials for the future. Simultaneously, these materials will be utilized for appreciation, education, and regional revitalization. The project involves negotiating with animation copyright holders to borrow original animation drawings and then capturing them as digital data through photography and archival processes. The resulting digital data will serve educational and research purposes, as well as be available for display at local events and experiential education within the community.

Kyoto Seika University, which has been engaged in manga education and research since the 1970s, boasts a Manga Department, Manga Research Division, and an International Manga Research Center. Despite their historical value, animation keyframes and related data are at risk of being lost or discarded. By prioritizing archival efforts, the university aims to establish expertise in preserving such research materials and hopes to explore new avenues for regional revitalization. The project is set to begin preparations in the fiscal year 2023 and will be implemented over a three-year period until fiscal year 2025. Funding from the national Digital Rural City National Strategy Grant (Local Revitalization Promotion Type) will support the establishment of a project base within the Keihanna Open Innovation Center (KICK). This base will facilitate storage, photography, and digital data conversion of historical materials.

We invite you to cover this collaborative initiative between academia, industry, and government. Kyoto Seika University entered into a comprehensive agreement with Seika Town in 2016, aiming to contribute to the development of the local community and the cultivation of talent in fields such as education, culture, welfare, regional industries, and town planning.
